Digital photograph of R J Emery on the terrace of the Innovation and Discovery Center at Ursinus College.
Panel Text
RJ Emery is a 3-year facilities worker here at Ursinus College and he is only 22 years old. RJ’s job is to help with setting up events on campus as well as work on campus renovations. RJ grew up in Audubon, PA and he spends a lot of his free time riding motorcycles when it’s warm and snowboarding when it snows. RJ is truly a man who enjoys the outdoors. RJ has said that since he is still young, his role in his community is very minimal, however, RJ’s role on campus has been very important, despite his age, as he has worked through the entire pandemic at Ursinus and has had to adjust, constantly, to changing guidelines that have made his job more difficult. I met RJ through a friend of mine who graduated from Ursinus. I was put in touch with RJ because of his willingness to be a part of this project even though he is not super fond of being photographed. RJ took me to his favorite spot on campus which is the terrace of the IDC. This photograph is of RJ looking out on the whole campus from this spot because that is what relaxes RJ during a hard day of work. He enjoys the peacefulness of the space because he can be outside and always be on his own because the IDC terrace is not open to students, only faculty. I made the choice to take this photo of RJ from his side profile because he is not a big fan of being photographed. I would like to thank RJ for taking time out of his schedule to be a part of this portrait and for being a good sport about the whole process.
