Description
A typed article transcribed by Alfred L. Shoemaker from Hazard's Register of Pennsylvania, volume twelve, page 286, dating from circa 1833. The article describes the long journeys undertaken by "Pittsburgh Wagoners," who led teams of horses and covered wagons from Baltimore and Philadelphia to Pittsburgh and Wheeling. It also describes the "wagon taverns" along the route and notes the coming changes with increased use of canals and railroads.
